Blistered, Ripped and Bled

I’ve just found this video which features a fantastic Easter poem performed by John Goode. It formed the end of the Good Friday service at Buckhead Church in Atlanta.  I know it’s a little late for Easter (although we are still in the season of Easter) but the message of the poem is applicable year-round. The poem starts at 1:24…

Second Glance

“perhaps true beauty is something that draws our attention at second glance, once the judgement of a first glance has realised it’s mistake”

Faith Keeps Hope Alive

“We separated the babies and unfortunately, after separation of the babies, Hope’s lungs were too small to support her breathing and circulation.”So eventually she died because of a lung condition and in reality what happened before is that the lungs of Faith were somehow supporting Hope,” he said.Source: BBC – Conjoined Twin Dies After Surgery

Back-Handed Compliment?

The following was said to me recently after I finished leading our Brigade service: I’m just not sure about you being called to your home Church.  I think you should be seeking somewhere with a much larger Youth Ministry. You’re good; too good for us. – {withheld} Interesting theology wrapped up in that I think.

Seize the Moment

Jesus was only ever able to seize the moment because He spent so much time in prayer and in the presence of His Father.  Jesus spent hours every day in personal spiritual preparation.  Then, when He had a relational encounter, He was spiritually aware enough to see straight into the heart of the situation and maximise that moment.  The same…

Ready to Follow?

“God isn’t looking for people of great faith, but for individuals ready to follow Him.”- Hudson Taylor – “It is the duty of every Christian to be Christ to his neighbour.”– Martin Luther – “It is not my ability, but my response to God’s ability, that counts.”– Corrie Ten Boom – “It seems that what is required of us is…

King is Dead! Long Live The King…

Source: The Age A few quotes from Barack Obama as he declares victory in the US Election: “to put their hands on the arc of history and bend it once more toward the hope of a better day” “Sasha and Malia, I love you both so much, and you have earned the new puppy that’s coming with us to the…

Footprints in the Sand

A reformulation of the ‘Footprints in the Sand‘ poem as a limerick: There was a man who, at low tideWould walk with the Lord by his sideJesus said “Now look back; You’ll see one set of tracks. That’s when you got a piggy-back ride.”{source} Great to see it distilled down but still retaining its meaning. Reminded me of this Savage Chickens cartoon…

Christ-follower or Christ-like?

In our Home Group we’ve been exploring the Kingdom of God and trying to re-establish our vision of what ‘the Kingdom of God’ means.  Just after our second session in which we looked at Matthew 7:21 (“not everyone who says ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom…”) I found the following ‘parable’ by Pete Rollins which really backed-up what we’d been…

Wednesday Wisdom #31

Continuing the series: I’ve learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he/she handles these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights. – Maya Angelou
