Theology

On Sabbatical

It’s now 14 years since my ordination, I served for 20 years as a volunteer in ministry prior to that. I admit to having felt tired for the last six months; not exhausted or burnt out, but more emotionally tired than physically or spiritually.

Relentless Solidarity

One of the lessons I’ve learned again during this year is that life is short and unpredictable, and we need to make the most of every moment we’re blessed with.

On This Mountain

Jesus’ conversation with a Samaritan woman teaches us that it’s not important where we worship, as God isn’t limited by location, it’s not about place or tradition – what matters is who we worship and how.

Exploring Baptism Together

Recently we had a couple of children (9 & 11) who expressed a desire to be baptised, both having come to faith a short while ago. We were thrilled, but aware that we’ve not baptised children before and that our usual ‘prep’ wouldn’t be appropriate. Ahead of the Baptism service at Easter, I produced a two-sided worksheet; the first side…

Jesus: Completely Innocent, Totally Condemned

In the Bible, the number three signifies ‘completeness’. When things are said three times, that’s considered the last word. Innocent Yesterday as I was reading Luke 23 I noticed that three times it is mentioned that Jesus is guilty of nothing: v4 – Pilate: “I don’t find him guilty of anything.” v15 – Pilate: “Herod didn’t find him guilty either and…

Windmill

Windmill Reflections

Having started by reflecting on the art of sailing and being led to the work of the Holy Spirit, I now come to some reflections on the nature & purpose of a windmill. [if you’ve not read the first post, I recommend you do so before continuing] This weekend I visited the windmill mentioned in the earlier post. – see the photos…

Sailing Boats - Sails Safely Stowed

Sails Safely Stowed

A few months ago, whilst on a retreat day, I was out walking, thinking, praying, listening to God, and taking photos. I was less than a mile from my childhood home, but in an area I’d not explored previously*. [* I had tried to explore it previously, but had been shot at by a farmer – it has since become…

Kingdom of God…

The Kingdom of God is like a cobweb: always there, but seldom seen unless you’re looking for it often surprising you when you run into it unexpectedly early in the morning, it is heavy with refreshing dew; pregnant with possibility Lord, open us up to see the Kingdom of God around us today.

Peace Pagoda

Recently I’ve been challenged about the use of an inappropriate image for a Christian project. What follows are my reflections on whether or not using the image was wise or appropriate. When setting up a new project recently (Hope MK) and putting together the website, I selected a number of images which unmistakeably represented Milton Keynes. These each featured iconic scenes…

Reflections on an Adventure with the Holy Spirit

Chris Duffett A few weeks ago I went on an adventure with the Holy Spirit. It still excites me to think about it… [read about it before you go on…] Since the adventure, I’ve been reflecting on and processing a number of aspects of it. In fact, for the first few days I could do little else! Here are some…
